Hello everybody, My name is Stefano Corazza, I’m the CTO here at Mixamo. So today, I’m going to talk a little bit about why Mixamo is so great, and what we can do for the 3D animation community. So Mixamo first of all, is an online 3D character animation service, so we provide animation 24/7 through the website to game developers, movie makers, animation movie makers, and we basically have all those people animate their characters.
The way it works and the reason why Mixamo is so great is that, the users can upload their character onto our website and then they can browse over our extensive catalogue of motions and then any of those motions can be customized and can be also applied to any of those characters. And so we provide basically what is technically called “re-targeting” so we can apply any of those motions to the character of the user and then we plug very very seamlessly in most 3D character animation packages like 3ds max, Maya, Motion builder, blender, cinema4d and so on, through 3 main formats: which are fbx, bvh and collada which are the most relevant there.
The technology was developed over the course of the last year, and some part of which also at Stanford, where I was for about four years, where we developed some of these technologies which are now available on the website. And one thing that I want to mention also is that users are really able to see what they get before buying it, because we have also embedded a 3D environment on the website so all of those motions can be applied to the characters of the user and it can be seen from different angles and different speeds so it can be evaluated before the user can actually download it.
