Welcome to Monday’s Animation Reference Library video. This video is of a “Explosion Jump” cycle, where the 3D biped jumps away from a large explosion that has just occurred. We demonstrate this motion by using two new custom characters from our Custom Character Pro feature. One is a young combat male in a blue sniper outfit and the other is with a female in a tank top and pants.
There’s the traditional four views of the motion with the top view, side view, 3/4 view and front views. The first view of the pushing motion is with the custom motion sliders set at the original parameters, of which there are four for this particular motion. They are: arms (straight or flail; how much movement do the arms have when the body is landing towards the ground), direction (forward or back, which direction does the biped throw his/her body), jump length (how far away does the biped go) and finally, overdrive (how fast does the motion proceed).
The first view is the military character in a blue sniper outfit, jumping away from an explosion with all of the parameters set in the middle so that he throws himself a medium distance away. In the second view of the explosion jump 3D motion, the custom motion sliders are changed so that the 3D biped female is jumping more forward (direction) and closer (jump length)! This motion looks very rigid. I.e. at the end when the character hits the ground, it just doesn’t look natural. Wonder what can be done to make it better.
