5 Questions with Fluid’s Seth Piezas

by Goldie on February 2, 2010

I was lucky enough to catch a quick interview with Seth Piezas from Fluid, llc (maker of one of the first Mixamo-based iPhone games)

1) How has Mixamo helped you create your product?

We used Mixamo as the source for clown approach animations. Not having available animator time to tap, the library was a useful and cost effective resource.

2) How would you describe Mixamo to someone else?

Animation in a can

3) What is the next technology advancement that will advance the industry?

It’s been a long time since the hard, ugly days of CG where it took hours to render a teapot. Not we’re entering a new period that has given birth to the marketplace, where graphics elements are a commodity. Mixamo sits dead along that path.

4) What is the biggest unmet need in gaming either from development or end user?

Virtualization is a big word. It has been for a while in many areas of technology. We’ve seen SDK’s make it easier for development teams to cross platforms and devices. That trend needs to continue in a big way, with a platform that allows developers to reach users wherever they may be with minimal friction getting an appropriate, optimized experience to the device. This will enable budgets to shrink and push business model innovation.

5) What has your biggest piece of learning been?

That’s a pretty open ended question. My wife would say I’m good on tech. And have a lot of learning to do elsewhere…
